WA Pastoralists To Meet With Queen Today

2011-10-27

Current and past Presidents of Western Australia’s oldest State Farming Organisation, the Pastoralists and Graziers Association (PGA), will be meeting today with HM Queen Elizabeth II at Government House.

Current PGA President Rob Gillam, and past President Barry Court AM, have been invited to attend the function where Western Australia’s top business and industry leaders will meet with the Queen as part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Ceremony.

Mr. Gillam said he was honoured to have the opportunity to meet with the Queen, and was looking forward to discussing the valuable contribution that pastoralism has made not only to Western Australia but to the Commonwealth as well.

“As President of Western Australia’s oldest farming organization, it is an honour to meet with the Queen on behalf of the State’s pastoralists and farmers,” Mr. Gillam said.

“The Pastoralists and Graziers Association has had a long relationship with the Royal Family, dating back to our creation in 1907.”

“Pastoralism remains the oldest agricultural activity in Western Australia, and the contribution that the wool industry made to the development of the State, and the Commonwealth can not be underestimated, he said.”

“While Australia rode on the sheep’s back, the Commonwealth rode on the back of the Australian pastoralists.”

“This valuable contribution has now been extended to cattle and sheep meat production, as well as other agricultural activities including grain production and horticultural activities.”

“Western Australia remains the largest exporter of agricultural products in the Commonwealth, which is due to the legacy left by our pioneering pastoralists and farmers.”
