PGA BRIEFS NEW SHADOW MINISTER
2008-11-03
The Pastoralists & Graziers Association has welcomed Shadow Agriculture Minister Mick Murray’s pledge to support good policy, in a briefing session with the Collie/Preston MLA this week. PGA Grains Policy Director, Sheldon Mumby said the new Shadow Minister showed keen interest in proposed changes to WA’s grain freight infrastructure and to ongoing delays and funding concerns with the Muchea saleyards and other facilities. “The Shadow Minister has also had first hand experience with private property rights in his electorate and has indicated that he is keen to hear PGA views and updates on issues of concern to private property owners. “Our discussion on grain freight centred on PGA concerns that proposals to re-open rail spur lines and other services would result in a new across-the-board cost for all grain producers. “He was also interested in our view on GM crops and how other States and the Federal Government are supporting a staged phase-in of the technology,“ Mr Mumby said.
