PASTORALISTS NOW AT RISK CLAIMS PGA

2010-04-09

The new mustering season in rangeland WA will pose new risks to pastoralists because the State Government is now forcing them to work without the protection of handguns.

Pastoralists and Graziers’ Association President Rob Gillam said the new season would determine if the WA ban on handguns for working livestock would result in a greater volume of injuries or deaths on stations.

“Pastoralists will continue to oppose the ban on handguns because those guns are not playthings to them, they are traditional ‘tools of trade‘ and are often a matter of life or death.”
