LIVE EXPORT SUPPORTERS TO RALLY IN FREMANTLE THIS SUNDAY

2012-11-15

The livelihood of thousands of West Australian livestock producers will be strongly defended this Sunday when hundreds of live export supporters rally along the Swan River foreshore in East Fremantle in protest against the annual Stop Live Exports Human Chain across the Stirling Bridge.

Farmers, pastoralists, truck drivers, stock agents, live exporters and the general public from throughout the State will gather at Merv Cowan Park on Riverside Road East Fremantle at 9am to show their support for the live export trade.

Nuffield scholar and Pilbara pastoralist Annabelle Coppin; RIRDC Rural Woman of the Year and animal health specialist Catherine Marriot; and Middle East animal welfare consultant Blythe Calnan will address the crowd about the importance of live exports to regional Western Australia and how the trade is improving animal health and welfare in developing nations.

Organiser Michael Trant says it is time that the public finds out the real truth behind live exports.

“Out of the hundred plus countries that export live animals, Australia is the only one doing anything to improve conditions in foreign countries,” Mr Trant said.

“We are sick of hearing the lies put out about our industry and the continual spin from professional activists who are determined to not only end live exports, but all livestock production as well”

“Everyone is welcome to come down on Sunday morning and find out first hand from the farmers, pastoralists, truckies, stock agents, yardmen, the jackaroos, jillaroos, feed mills, hay and grain growers, feed lotters, vets, AQIS officials, shearers and exporters the truth about the live export industry and why it is supported by the majority of people.”

“We want people to know that banning something fixes nothing.”
