MLA INVITATION TO WORLD OVINPIADES COMPETITION

Invitation to apply for a position on the Australian team to compete at the 2011 World Ovinpiades from Sunday 30 October – Wednesday 9 November

 

Meat & Livestock Australia invites you to apply for one of the two positions available on the Australian team competing at the inaugural World Ovinpiades competition to be held in New Zealand.

 

This is a great opportunity for young people working in the sheep industry to learn best practices and network with other people involved in the sheep sector from around the world.

 

The World Ovinpiades, which will have a contingent of up to 25 young producers representing around nine countries, incorporates a programe of events over 10 days from Sunday 30 October to Wednesday 9 November and will be held in the southern part of the South Island.

 

The competition itself will be held over two days in the historic town of Oamaru and will cover a range of farming skills. The proposed programe includes farm tours, a major field day and a visit to a meat processing plant.

 

Senior industry representatives from the Australia will accompany the competitors throughout the competition and at an awards dinner where the winner of the World Ovinpiades will be announced.

 

All airfares, accommodation, meals, tours and transport for the duration of the event will be complimentary. The competition and accompanying activities programme will be conducted in English. Criteria for entry, includes;

 

·         An interest and introductory experience with sheep

·         Currently studying or working in agriculture, specializing or containing a focus on sheep production

·         Aged between 18 – 25 years old
